Hiroshima scenery:
“70 years Since the Atomic Bomb/The Miracle City”

August, 2015

One Hundred Views of Hiroshima (on air every Tuesday at 9:54 pm) began in May 2000. It features beautiful footage from around the prefecture, including seasonal highlights, local festivals, and more, with text on the screen and background music. In 2015, 70 years since the atomic bombing, the show featured 14 episodes telling the story of Hiroshima’s recovery from the bombing using photos and other materials that show Hiroshima directly after the bombing, as well as scenes from current Hiroshima.

Several locations were highlighted in the series, including Hiroshima Red Cross Hospital, which miraculously survived the bombing despite its close proximity to the hypocenter (current Hiroshima Red Cross Hospital and Atomic Bomb Survivors Hospital); the Ushita Water Treatment Plant, which resumed service in the same afternoon as the bombing despite being extremely damaged, saving the city from water outages, and the former National Railway that sent out the first relief train carrying the injured away from Hiroshima Station despite the chaos of the day, including the risk of fires caused by derailment and railroad ties

Taking pride in their mission, the hibakusha (atomic bomb survivors) worked tirelessly for the recovery of their city, overcoming countless hardships along the way. See for yourself the miraculous recovery of Hiroshima.
